Statement of Candidacy
Jerry Johnson, a Memphis native, is a dedicated servant leader who considers it a profound honor to serve his community through meaningful contributions to the financial and economic development sectors. A graduate of Tennessee State University, Jerry’s early accolades and leadership roles foreshadowed his commitment to excellence and service.
Building on this foundation, Jerry embarked on a dynamic career that began on Wall Street, where he excelled at Morgan Stanley, managing a foreign currency deposit product that grew to $250 million. Known for his strategic financial insights and cross-functional collaboration, Jerry developed expertise in deposit metrics tracking and establishing pricing frameworks. His passion for uplifting his hometown eventually brought him back to Memphis, where he served as Fiscal Officer for the City of Memphis Workforce Investment Network, overseeing $10 million in annual federal funding and enhancing financial controls to reduce audit findings. At the Greater Memphis Alliance for a Competitive Workforce, Jerry further demonstrated his leadership as Director of Finance and Administration, introducing innovative budget forecasting and accountability measures. Now, as CFO at William R. Moore College of Technology (Moore Tech), Jerry continues to make a significant impact, driving a 20% revenue increase, expanding scholarships, and boosting enrollment by 65%.
Jerry’s dedication to leadership extends beyond his professional accomplishments, as reflected in his participation in esteemed programs like Leadership Tennessee and Leadership Memphis. This commitment to service is further exemplified by his role as the TASFAA Proprietary Institutions Sector Representative, a position he has thoroughly enjoyed over the past year. Advocating for and representing the sector’s needs has been a gratifying experience, and he would be honored to continue serving in this capacity in the future.
Beyond work, Jerry is devoted to his wife, Kasey, and their two sons, Jerry III and Knox. A passionate community servant, he has volunteered with non-profits, mentored students, and actively contributed to his church, First Baptist Broad, for over 30 years. Jerry’s career and community contributions inspire success, service, and a lifelong pursuit of servant leadership.
