Position: Secretary

Leslie Goodrum

Volunteer State Community College

Statement of Candidacy

It is with great pleasure to accept the nomination for TASFAA’s Secretary. TASFAA has been a great organization to be a part of during my thirty-three years in the Financial Aid world. This past year I was able to serve as the Public 2-year Sector Representative and have thoroughly enjoyed working on committees and working along some great people. TASFAA has also allowed me to grow as an individual and collaborate with others to gain further knowledge in this field. I firmly believe that working together as a team allows us to serve students and their support team to achieve their dream of a postsecondary degree.

I began my career in Financial Aid in March of 1992 at Volunteer State Community College. I was attending Vol State and participating in the work study program when I applied for their front counter position. This position allowed me to assist students with their FAFSA completion and guide them along the process of completing paperwork that was needed. I served in this role for about 9 years and transitioned over to an Account Clerk. I began the journey of R2T4’s, and reconciliation of all state and federal programs. During this time, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Organizational Leadership from Trevecca University. I remained in this role till October of 2019, when I applied and accepted the position of Assistant Director in our office. I have been able to learn and collaborate with a host of TASFAA members that have been essential in my growth in the financial aid community, and I am excited for the opportunity to be able to give back.

In my free time, I enjoy being with my family as much as possible and having girl time with my two best friends that I have had since second grade. I love to travel and spoil my two nieces (Rylee 18, Lyla 13). I am married to Wayne and gained two bonus daughters (Kendell and Jordan) in 2021. As a family we are always on the go. Our youngest is on the middle school softball team and a travel softball team. We spend a lot of time on the field cheering for our “catcher”.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve as TASFAA Secretary and be able to work with all of you to continue its success.
