Position: President-Elect

Melissa Smith

Vanderbilt University

Statement of Candidacy

I am honored to be nominated for the TASFAA 2026-2027 President Elect.

I have been a TASFAA member since 1996 and actively engaged in serving the organization in a multitude

of roles. Over the years I have been given the opportunity to serve TASFAA as Conference Chair,

Treasurer, Budget and Finance Chair, Historian, Newsletter Editor, District Chair, and Site Selection Chair.

Throughout my involvement, I have valued the opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals

who bring various perspectives and expertise to our work. These experiences have strengthened my

belief in the importance of TASFAA. Our mission is to develop and maintain an organizational structure

that promotes professional preparation and growth of our members while serving the needs of our

students and families. As President, I would prioritize collaboration with the Executive Board,

committees, and membership to ensure our organization remains responsive, comprehensive, and

forward-focused.

My current position is Deputy Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at

Vanderbilt University. I have been blessed to work with an amazing Vanderbilt team for the past 23

years.

I have also served our regional association, SASFAA, as Conference Chair for multiple years. I would be

committed to representing TASFAA with integrity at the state and regional levels.

Working in higher education and specifically financial aid is extremely important to me and assisting

students to achieve their goals. I would be grateful for the opportunity to serve as President and to

continue working together to advance the mission and impact of TASFA
